Cluster workshop in Korea

A cluster workshop and trips to clusters in Korea (Gyeonggi, Daejeon and Gumi) were organised by the KORANET consortium from 23-25 November 2010.
At the end of November 2010, some KORANET partners visited key actors involved in the structuring and management of the national innovation clusters of Korea. Five workshops were held during three days in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daejeon and Gumi. The aim of the workshops was:
(a) to understand the cluster situation in Korea and Europe;
(b) to formulate strategies, policies and management practices to strengthen international cooperation between clusters; and
(c) to provide a unique platform for policy makers and innovation/cluster-related experts to exchange their experiences and good practices.

The expected outcomes from this workshop are:

• Understanding cluster management projects in Korea and EU
• Exchange cases of international cooperation activities among clusters
• Analyse potentials / needs of researchers and companies for international cooperation in Korea and EU
• Produce a workshop report on “Potentials for international cooperation on the basis of clusters”

The results of this Korean cluster workshop will be the basis for the 2nd Korea-EU Cluster Expert Workshop to be held in Spring 2011 in Italy and Austria.
